Certified Organic Farm
We're working hard for sustainable farming.
ABOUT OUR FARM
Tauroa has evolved over time into a thriving certified organic farm with a large nature preserve. Tauroa provides a diverse menu including organic beef and lamb, exotic rare Perigord truffles, feijoas, and highly nutritious nuts, fruits and vegetables for local restaurants and wineries.
Our organic and productive farm is run as a closed-loop system where we celebrate biodiversity and sustainability.
Proudly Organic
Tauroa Farm Trust is BioGro certified organic. "Organic" has been defined by the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) as - avoiding or excluding the use of synthetic fertilisers, pesticides, antibiotics, growth modification and irradiation.
The BioGro certification goes a step further to define organic. Traceability, animal welfare, climate change, wildlife, packaging, care for workers, health and wellbeing & advertising (no greenwashing) are all top priorities.
Fruit & Vegetables
Throughout the property, we grow a large variety of fruit and vegetables including having over 2,000 feijoa trees and a 72 oak and hazel tree truffier.
All our produce is sent to local and national suppliers.
Our Animals
At Tauroa Farm Station, we have a range of farm animals, all with different roles.
We produce Angus beef which is supplied to the local Organic Butcher, Chickens, whose eggs are supplied to local outlets, sheep who we use to 'mow' the lawns for us around the truffier, and turkeys who eat the acorns that are poisonous to cattle.
Sustainable
'Closed Loop' farming
We recycle all organic matter back to the soil that it grew. This forms part of an agricultural practice that preserves the nutrient and carbon levels within the soil and allows farming to be carried out on a sustainable basis.
